We offer simple accommodation in one of the most remote and rugged landscapes in northumberland.

our family took over the tenancy of barrowburn farm in november 2016, and have been living here and farming the land since then. the farm is owned by the m.o.d, and is an off-grid, hill sheep farm set in the heart of the northumberland national park. With the Cheviot hills all around and the river Coquet running through, we are well placed to explore some of northumberland's most wild and beautiful landscapes. Water to all our accommodation is filtered spring water, and electricity is generated by solar panels, a wind turbine and (when all else fails!) a diesel generator.
All the hills surrounding our accommodation is 'open access' land, which means that you can wander around freely, and you are welcome to bring your dog and enjoy the hills responsibly.
If you plan your visit in june or early july, check out our sssi (Site of Special Scientific Interest) designated wild-flower meadows, which are some of the finest examples of their kind pretty much anywhere!
While you're here, enjoy our internationally recognised dark skies; giving stunning views of the night sky and milky-way. Use the deck chairs available in Both the Camping Barn and Deer Hut and borrow our dark sky pack (binoculars, red torch, star map and planisphere) to make the most of viewing the amazing starry nights!
